Dzalanyama Forest is undoubtedly one of Malawi’s very best birding localities, supplying superb miombo birding just 58km from the capital. Species like the peculiarly localised Stierling’s Woodpecker, Pale-billed Hornbill, Miombo Pied Barbet, Boulder Chat, Central Bearded Scrub Robin, Miombo Grey Tit, Red-capped Crombec and Ancheita Sunbird to name but a few.

Itinerary 

06.30 to 17.30 - We collect you from your hotel / residence and it’s a 1 ½ hr drive to the forest. The birding starts immediately and your guide will take you to the target areas to maximize your experience and sightings. Mid morning there will be a coffee break, then continue to lunch, which will be served in Dzalanyama Forest Lodge. The afternoons activity will be decided on, ensuring you are back at your hotel by 17.30. Tour done in a Toyota Corolla or 4X4 vehicle [depending on road condition / time of year] Price includes – Transport from / to your hotel in Lilongwe, services of birding guide, 2 X bottles of water
tea / coffee, a muffin and lunch.

Did you know that helmeted guinea fowls spend their days feeding on the ground, but roost in trees at night to avoid predators? Some Luangwa leopards, however, have become adept at hunting them in the treetops!
