 5 Day Mulanje Summit and Zomba Plateau

Day 1 – Depart Lilongwe and drive to Mulanje. Arrive at Likhubula Forest Lodge early afternoon. Initial briefing and 3D orientation followed by a gentle warm up hike to Dziwe-Lankhalamba rock pools and falls (2 Hrs) or visit a near by rock pools (10 min) returning to the lodge before sunset. Detailed briefing after dinner. Overnight at Likhubula Forest Lodge inclusive meals. Hiking time (HT) 2Hrs.

Day 2 - We ascend to Chisepho Valley up the Chapaluka path. The route offers scenic views of the Likhubula and Thuchira Gorges. The overnight hut at Chisepho is newly built and beautifully positioned. Overnight Mountain hut on all meals inclusive basis. HT: 7Hrs.

Day 3 - After an “early birds breakfast” we ascent Sapitwa, arriving at the summit by 0900 Hrs. This is the highest point in Central Africa north of the Drakensberg. Views are superb from this height. We return to Chisepho where a substantial lunch awaits. In the afternoon we trek on to our overnight forest hut in the Chambe Basin. Overnight Mountain hut on all meals inclusive basis. HT: 8-9 hrs.

Day 4 - Descend to Likhubula and after saying our goodbyes, depart via Palombe to Zomba. Lunch en route and arrive in Zomba is mid afternoon. Check in to Ku Chawe Inn and the remainder of the day is at leisure. Overnight Ku Chawe Inn on Dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

Day 5: - After a more leisurely start to the morning and a full breakfast, we pack up and depart back to Lilongwe. Departure time is 0900. A stop in Dedza for lunch is planned and arrival in Lilongwe is mid afternoon. A free drop off service is offered in Lilongwe. Breakfast.

Price includes: all transport Lilongwe return, all indicated accommodation, Meals as indicated, a professional guide and mountain guide, all porter fees, all lodge and mountain hut accommodation fees, MCM guest membership fees and a small contribution to Nakhonyo and Mbewa village fund.

Excluded: Drinks, meals as indicated, Airport Departure tax [$30],

Clients are requested to provide their own sleeping bags – these can be hire from Land and Lake if need be – cost US $ 15 per trip.

Mulanje – Is know as the Island in the Sky – it consists of numerous plateaus, peaks and basins, interspersed with deep ravines. The massif looms up from the plateau below and the various peaks, basins and plateax offer the hiker a variety of challenging expeditions to gentle walks. The higest peak [Sapitwa] is 3004m asl and Mulanje has the higest, sheerest rock face [Chambe] in the southern Africa - only for expert rock climbers.
Zomba is a relatively low-lying plateau interrupted by a number of large mountains. Zomba Mountain, the largest is a hiker’s paradise with plentiful birds, small mammals and offering wonderful views across to Mulanje Mountain and Mozambique. Zomba was the capital of Malawi till 1975 and was the seat of parliament until 1994. Livingstone and John Kirk climbed Zomba peak in 1859 during their Zambezi Expedition

There is absolutely no problem traveling as a single woman. You are always part of a group and looked after by a qualified Land and Lake Guide throughout the entire trip.
