A scenic trek, covering a wide cross section of Mulanje’s unique areas, with spectacular views and optional side hikes to numerous peaks.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive at Likhubula Forest Lodge. Initial briefing and 3D orientation. Depending on the time of arrival we can either take a warm up hike to Dziwe-Lankhalamba rock pools and falls (2 Hrs) or visit a near by rock pools (10 min) returning to the lodge before sunset. Detailed briefing after dinner. Overnight at Likhubula Forest Lodge. Hiking time (HT): 2hrs.

Day 2 – After an early breakfast, we transfer by vehicle to Fort Lister Gap. Ascend to Sombani plateau through the plantation and natural forest with fabulous views of Michese mountain and the Phalombe plain. In the afternoon we have an optional walk to Leopard rock view point or nearby pools. Overnight Sombani Forest Hut. HT: 5Hrs

Day 3 - We hike on to Thuchila plateau via the Ruo basin, stopping for lunch at Chinzama forest hut. A sunset is enjoyed at Elephant head view point, 15 min from the forest hut. Overnight Thuchila Forest Hut. HT 6hrs. 

Day 4 - Trek to Lichenya Plateau via Chisepho shelter and the knife edge water shed. Our overnight hut is perfectly nestled at the base of Chilemba peak. In the late afternoon we visit Linje pool viewpoint, returning to the hut at sunset. Overnight CCAP cottage. HT: 7 Hrs.

Day 5 - Our descent takes us down the well weathered and shaded Likhubula valley, to arrive at the Likhubula forest lodge at about 1300Hrs. Debrief after lunch and a refreshing shower. HT: 6 hrs. End of Tour

Price includes: All meals, park fees, a professional guide, all porter fees, all lodge and mountain hut accommodation fees, vehicle transfer to start / end point, MCM guest membership fees and a small contribution to Nakhonyo and Mbewa village fund.

Excludes: Transfers to and from Likhubula, drinks and personal effects.
