4-Day NYIKA NATIONAL PARK – Chelinda Camp

Day 1: - Meet at the Land and Lake Office at 0830 in the morning. [A free collection service is offered to clients in Lilongwe]. Depart Lilongwe at approx 0900 and follow the M1 northwards. After travelling over the Viphya Mountains we arrive in Mzuzu the capital of the North in the early afternoon. On arrival we drive to Mzuzu Hotel, where we will spend the night. If time allows, a visit to the local vegetable market is a worthwhile excursion. Overnight Mzuzu Hotel on Dinner, bed and breakfast Basis.  

Day 2: - After an early breakfast we depart Mzuzu and continue via Rumphi to Thadzima Gate. This is the entrance gate to the Park. From here it’s a game drive for around 60kn to Chelinda Camp. Depending on the road condition, sightings and stops, we will arrive at Chelinda just after Lunch. The afternoon is spent on a game walk to one of the nearby dams where sightings of Reedbuck and Roan antelope are possible. Return to the chalet for dinner. Dinner is served in the chalet, by the resident cook, using the provisions we have brought with us from Lilongwe. Overnight Chelinda Chalets.  Day 3:- An early morning game drive is offered and we explore to western boundry of Nyika. This seldom visited area is stunningly beautiful and we hope to see Leopard, Zebra, Roan Antelope, Eland, Bushbuck and a number of sought after bird species. Return to the chalet for lunch and the afternoons activity is your choice. All meals included.  

Day 4: - After an early breakfast, we depart Nyika and drive back through Thadzima gate and Mzuzu back to Lilongwe. Todays drive is approx 11 hours long depending on the road conditions. Our aim is therefore to leave Chelinda by 7 and we will arrive back in Lilongwe by 5pm. A free drop off service is offered in Lilongwe

Nyika National Park – This is Malawi’s biggest Park and its rolling grasslands have been compared with Scotland, the only difference being it hosts some of Africa’s most unusual animals. Roan antelope as well as the Massive Eland are common as are the start Zebra. Leopard is the most common predator with jackal and hyena frequently seen. 

Chelinda Chalets – we stay in the rustic self catering chalets. Each chalet has 2 X bedrooms with a kitchen and shared bath room and toilet. The lounge cum dining room has a welcoming fire place which is lit during the cold months.  Electricity is available for short periods in the evening , and standby lighting is provided by kerosene lamps and candles.
