8 Day Dzalanyama, Luangwa and Lake Malawi Safari

Day 1:- Depart Lilongwe mid morning [or direct from the airport] and drive to Dzalanyama Forest Reserve. Driving time 1 & 1/2 hrs. Lunch followed by a walk in and around the surrounding Brachystegia Forest and nearby stream. Dinner, Overnight Dzalanyama Forest Lodge.

Day 2:- After an early cup of tea or coffee and a light snack, we go on an approx. 4 hr walk. The area is renowned for its excellent bird life and at times antelope are seen. Return to the lodge and enjoy a delicious brunch [eggs, bacon, toast, salads, cold meat etc] after which there is time to relax or swim in the cool mountain stream that flows past the front of the lodge. The afternoon is spent around the waterfalls - a short drive away. We return to the lodge, as it gets dark, using a spotlight to see nocturnal animals and birds. Evening dinner. Overnight Dzalanyama Forest Lodge.

Day 3:- After an early breakfast we depart to Lilongwe in time to join the Luangwa safari. Depart Lilongwe at 0900 continue to Zambia then proceed on a dirt road to Luangwa Valley - Mfuwe sector. A picnic lunch is enjoyed en route and ETA at the Lodge is 2.30pm. On arrival we check into our chalets followed by tea and coffee. Dinner is served around 20H00.

Day 4 & 5: - After a light snack with tea & coffee we depart for a morning drive at 06H00. All game drives are undertaken in specially modified safari vehicles, to optimise your pleasure and experience. Drinks and snacks are taken along for your enjoyment whilst in the park. Depending on game sightings, we return to the lodge at 11 for a scrumptious "brunch". An afternoon rest, swim, and tea then we again head out for our afternoon drive at around 16H00 - returning to the lodge at 20H00.

Day 6:- After breakfast we return back to Lilongwe. A picnic lunch is eaten en route and we continue to Lake Malawi & Senga Bay. ETA at the lodge in Senga Bay in time for a sundowner. Overnight on a Dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

Day 7:- A day to relax on the secluded and private beach or to explore the surrounding area on foot. Use of non motorised watersport equipment is included. Various other optional activities on offer and these to be arranged directly at the lodge. Overnight lodge on DBB basis.

Day 8:- After breakfast transfer back to Lilongwe in time for your return flight or onward journey.

Included: All transport Lilongwe return, 7 nights lodge, meals as indicated, 4 X game drives.
Excluded: Drinks, visa fees [if applicable], Luangwa park fees, lunches at the lake, optional excursions & water sports at the lake.

Dzalanyama Forest Lodge is set overlooking the Makata Stream amongst the Brachystegia trees, which attract a wide variety of birds and butterflies. It is the ideal retreat from which to enjoy bird watching, hiking and to simply enjoy the solitude of the surrounding forest. Hyena, leopard and recently a small group of sable antelope have been sighted along with the regular sightings of baboon and duiker.

Luangwa Valley - 9050 sq km of pristine woodland and riverine vegetation plays host to over 40 mammal and 650 bird species. The South Luangwa has been described as the premier park in Africa foremost for the variety of species seen when visiting. A visit to Malawi and Zambia would be totally incomplete without experiencing the sheer magnitude and delight of this unique area.

Thornicroft – This newly built Lodge is situated on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking the National Park. The lodge offers luxurious accommodation in double canvass and stone en suite chalets each with their own private verandah. Each room has been carefully positioned to afford guests excellent views of the river and park beyond and the atttention to detail in the chalets makes them luxurious. Professionally guided drives are undertaken in specially modified 4 wheel drive game viewing vehicles to enhance your pleasure and experience

Lake Malawi -The world’s 3rd largest fresh water lake and home to over 800 fish species, a greater number of freshwater species than are found in Europe and N America combined. The vast majority of these fish belong to the Cichlid group, brightly coloured and plentiful.

Safari Beach Lodge – situated in the Senga Bay Forest reserve on the shores of Lake Malawi, it is the ideal place to relax. Accommodation is in secluded en suite safari tents mounted on wooden platforms overlooking the lake.
