Arrival days in Lilongwe: 2009 - 4/01, 01/02, 01/03, 05/04, 03/05, 07/06, 05/07, 02/08, 06/09, 04/10, 08/11, 29/11.

Day 1: Arrive in Lilongwe. On arrival at the Lilongwe international airport you will be collected and transferred to the Lilongwe Sanctuary campsite or your chosen guest house. You can spend the rest of the day at your leisure. Overnight at the Sanctuary campsite or guest house on dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2: Works at the Centre starts at 08h00, you will be given an introductory talk on the Centre, its aims and objectives and greater detail of what you will be doing during your stay. - You will then be taken for a behind the scenes tour when you will meet the staff and the animals you will be working with.

Day 3, 4 and 5
: You will be working alongside the animal care to offer our orphans the best possible care that they deserve. Cleaning, feeding, buying food from the market, hand rearing baby orphans and providing enrichment to those that need it.

Day 6: Today, you will join Lilongwe Society for the Protection and Care of Animal's team (LSPCA) who deliver veterinary care and vaccinations to domestic animals, within the surrounding communities. After a hard but rewarding day in the field you will return to the centre where all the volunteers will come together for the regular weekly meeting and a relaxing cold drink at the centres Waterhole Bar

Day 7: Following the previous day’s meeting volunteers will be given a chance to specialise in specific areas that interest them., whether this be working with the primates, carnivore, antelopes, orphan care, educational or construction.

Day 8: A day off for you to relax.

Day 9, 10, 11 and 12: Working at the wildlife centre – specific to your chosen area of interest

Day 13: Today you join for the Lilongwe SPCA team. End of the day the Weekly volunteer meeting.

Day 14: Working at the wildlife centre – specific to your chosen area of interest

Day 15: A day off for you to relax.

Day 16, 17, 18 and 19: Working at the wildlife centre – specific to your chosen area of interest

Day 20: Today you join the Lilongwe SPCA team. Weekly volunteer meeting.

Day 21: Your last day working at the wildlife centre and a volunteer dinner to say goodbye

Day 22: Departure Airport

Please note: Opportunities available to those wishing to do some community work with the Centre’s own Outreach Officer

Included in the above package: Transport from accommodation to work and back at working hours. Accommodation is on dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

Excluded in the above package: drinks, Malawi visa fees [if applicable]

Wild Life Centre

Primate Release Program (Kasungu National Park) – Join our team of experts in the field who are following some of the Centre’s released primates US$250 / week inclusive of food and transport to and from project area.


Weekly extension is possible for volunteering at the Wildlife Centre:
