8-Day Southern Circuit - Sample Itinerary
A easy self drive exploring Southern and Central Malawi's places of interest.
Type of vehicle: - Toyota Corolla saloon with air-conditioning.
Suggested Itinerary
Day 1 - You will be met at the airport and your documents will be handed to you during a detailed briefing. Overnight standard lodge in Lilongwe on a bed and breakfast basis [BB]
Day 2 - After breakfast, depart and Drive South along the M1 to Blantyre. You travel along the Malawi / Mozambique border with ample opportunity to stop and take pictures of local culture and wonderful scenery into the rift valley. On arrival in Blantyre check into a 2 star hotel on a BB basis.
Day 3 - Morning exploring Blantyre and surrounds. Visit the St. Michaels church, market etc. At Lunch time proceed to the nearby Tea Estate and stay in the charming colonial style farmhouse that has been converted into a guest house. There is a cook who will prepare the food you purchased in Blantyre.
Day 4 - A day spent exploring the tea estate or a day trip can be made to Mulanje Mountain - South Central Africa's highest mountain. Return to the Guest house for your overnight.
Day 5 - Drive through Limbe, via Zomba [a drive up Zomba Plateau is worthwhile] and continue to Liwonde National Park. Overnight at Mvuu Camp where game drives and boat safaris are offered.
Day 6 - A day in the park on game drives, walks, boat safaris with all meals provided.
Day 7 - Leave Mvuu and drive to Livingstonia Beach Hotel for your last evening.
Day 8 - It's a 2 hour return journey from the Lake to the airport where you leave your vehicle to board your return flight.

10 Day Northern Circuit -
A relatively adventurous self drive expedition exploring the remote Nyika National Park and the exquisite northern beaches of Malawi.
Type of vehicle: - 4X4 Toyota Twin Cab or similar.
Suggested Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrive in Lilongwe where you will be met, your documents will be handed to you during your detailed briefing. Overnight Hotel in Lilongwe on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis [DBB]
Day 2 - After breakfast, depart your hotel and head North along the M1 up the Viphya Plateau. Once on the plateau head to Luwawa Forest Lodge which is set overlooking a dam and a magnet for birds. Walking trails are laid out from the lodge and are easy to follow. Overnight Lodge on DBB basis.
Day 3 - Breakfast then continue via Mzuzu to Vwaza Marsh Game reserve. Stay at Kazuni Lodge overlooking the lake which hosts huge pods of hippo and numerous water bird species and is renowned for its elephant sightings.
Day 4 - Morning game walks or drives explore this little known reserve.
Day 5 - After breakfast, depart up into the remote Nyika National Park. From the entrance gate, your off road driving skills will be tested till you reach Chelinda Camp. Overnight self catering chalet or the luxurious Chelinda Lodge.
Day 6, 7  - Days in the park on game drives or  walks. Horse riding and night safaris are also possible.
Day 8 - Leaving Nyika behind, descend the escarpment and into the rift valley the vegetation changes completely to a tropical environment within a short distance. Chintheche area has the best beaches on the entire lakeshore and there are numerous accommodation places to choose from.
Day 9 -  A day to relax on the beach or to  enjoy water sports on offer.
Day 10 - It's a 4 hour return journey from the Lake to the airport where you leave your vehicle to board your return flight.
