Vwaza Marsh Game Reserve - 1000
sq KM and situated at the foot of the Nyika Plateau. Vwaza is Malawi's
best kept secret. Aside from the wetlands, the flat terrain supports
mixed Brachystegia and mopane woodland which is a haven for elephants,
antelope and numerous bird species.
Nyika National Park - is
Malawi's largest NP. It is a vast range of rolling hills averaging over
2000m asl. The area is covered in montane grassland with fern &
heather communities. The air is cool & crisp, the views endless,
walking superb and unique game viewing.
Lake Malawi -The worlds 3rd
largest fresh water lake and home to over 800 fish species. More
freshwater species than Europe and N America combined. Warm water, no
currents - a divers dream.
Chintheche's beaches
are picture postcard with perfect white sand, rocky outcrops,
rainforests fringing the coastline - a place to relax whilst enjoying
the service of small personable lodges.
Cape Maclear - Lake Malawi National Park, declared
in 1980, includes the Nankumba Peninsula and the surrounding 9 islands
- it is the most important freshwater fish sanctuary in the world.
Liwonde National Park -
is the prime National Park in Malawi for game viewing. Thousands of
hippo and crocodile live in the Shire river and several hundred
elephant, plus a variety of antelope are seen on the floodplain. Black
Rhino, Buffalo and Zebra have recently been introduced into the Park.
A boat trip on the Shire River, gliding silently through the
reedbeds spotting jacana's, egrets, ibis and kingfisher is always
highlight.
Zomba - the old
colonial Capital of Nyassaland, home to the first colonial Governor's
Residence, the botanic gardens, King's African Rifles' War
Museum, the Clock Tower (built in 1926), and the Zomba Gymkhana Club.
The Zomba Plateau which looms over the town with sheer escarpments
rising over a thousand meters above the plain below.
Blantyre was
a settlement before gold was found in Johannesburg and it was declared
a township five years before Nairobi. Its named after the birthplace of
David Livingstone.
Mulanje is
a vast isolated granite massif rising sharply and dramatically above
the featureless plains. The massif covers an area of 650 sq. km
and is incised by several large thickly wooded ravines.
