Duration:- 12 Nights / 13 Days

Interest:- Game viewing by vehicle and foot, bird watching, photography.
Day 1: - Meet at the Land and
Lake Office at 0830 in the morning. Depart Lilongwe & continue to
Mchinji and onto a dirt road to Luangwa Valley - Mfuwe sector. A picnic
lunch is enjoyed en route and ETA at the Lodge is 2.30pm. On arrival we
check into our chalets followed by tea and coffee.
Day 2 & 3: - After a light snack with tea & coffee we depart for a morning drive at 06H00. All game drives are undertaken in open game viewing vehicles,
to optimise your pleasure and experience. Drinks and snacks are taken
along for your enjoyment whilst in the park. Depending on game
sightings, we return to the lodge at 11 for a scrumptious "brunch".
Afternoon at leisure or swimming, prior to your afternoon / night
drive. Return for dinner
Day 4 :
- Depart Thornicroft and drive through the Nsefu sector to N Luangwa.
The entire drive is through game rich areas and is really an extended
game drive. Picnic lunch en route then we cross over to the west bank
of the Luangwa River. Arrival at Buffalo Camp is late afternoon.
Day 5&6:-
N. Luangwa is incredible for game walks and this is the preferred mode
of viewing game in the area. The days are spent walking, relaxing and
enjoying 3 wholesome meals daily. Night drives are also offered.
Day 7
- Depart N Luangwa and drive up the escarpment to Kapishya Hot Springs.
In the area is Shiwa N'Gandu - a castle built by Major Gore Brown after
the war. The house epitomises colonial decadence in an age when Africa
was struggling to find its feet. Overnight in chalets at Kapishya
Hot springs.
Day 8
- Continue towards Bangwelu Swamps an area protecting a huge herd of
Lechwe amongst other species. Shoebill camp is situated on an island in
the middle of a swamp and it is reached by a causeway built to
accommodate vehicles. The swamp is home to some breeding pairs of the
rare Shoebill Stork. Walking safaris are undertaken to see them.
Day 9 & 10:-
The days are spent on walking safaris and game drives onto the
surrounding plains to see the unique species this areas is so well know
for.
Day 11:- Today
we depart and descend the plateau back into North Luangwa. Depending on
road conditions we either head for Buffalo Camp or if the road permits,
Luambe Wilderness Lodge in Luambe National Park.
Day 12:- After breakfast
it's a more leisurely drive back along the Luangwa River to Mfuwe
sector and Thornicroft Lodge. ETA is around 5 pm.
Day 13:-
An easy start to the day then pack up and return back to Lilongwe via
the popular tribal textiles craft shop. A picnic lunch is eaten
en route and ETA in the city is 1500.
Included
in the above package: All transport Lilongwe return, 4 nights lodge
accommodation, 8 X nights tented lodge, all meals, game drives and
walks.

South Luangwa Valley -
9050 sq km of pristine woodland and riverine vegetation plays host to
over 40 mammal and 650 bird species. The South Luangwa has been
described as the premier park in Africa.
North Luangwa Valley -
Until very recently this park was inaccessible and off limits to
visitors, being a research center only. The great attraction is the
numerous lion prides, vast herds of Buffalo and Wildebeest in the area.
This is Africa in its rawest sense.
Bangwelu Swamps -
is home to huge herds of Lechwe and situated in the middle is Shoebill
Island - home to some of the few remaining breeding pairs of Shoebill
storks in the world. The area is quite spectacular and very unlike
anything you have experienced before.
Thornicroft Lodge is comfortable, spacious, en suite stone and canvass chalets each with their own private verandah.
Buffalo Camp -
One of 3 camps allowed to operate in N Luangwa, this rustic camp
overlooks the Mwaleshi River. The seasonal grass chalets, have secluded
open-air toilet and showers.
Shoebill Camp - rustic grass and thatch lodge with basic facilities and excellent views of the surrounding plains and permanent swamp.
