Introduction to Birding

Take the first step as an introduction to birding. Learn about identification methods, important calls, best times of year and find out what incredible species the city center has to offer. Included in your day is a professional birding guide, tea, coffee, snacks, and a full, fresh picnic lunch. Meet your guide at the Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary at 7am. Take a slow walk along the river and look out for different species. Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee during the walk and discuss identification methods, using your bird book, using your binoculars and taking pictures. Enjoy lunch while going over different calls, Malawi maps for different specie locations and birding tips and end the afternoon exploring another section of the nature sanctuary.

Local Cooking class with Kachere Village

You'll be collected from your residence in Lilongwe and you head out to Dzalanyama, Kachere Village. Spend the day with Kachere School mothers learning about traditional Malawian dishes and how to make them. You'll get first hand experience pounding maize, mixing, cooking relish, beans, nsima and enjoying the fruits of your labour for lunch! We then head into Kachere village and learn about Kachuse brewing, the local alcohol made in the village, and popping into the local bakery! Head back to Lilongwe late afternoon. Included in your trip is transport, cooking utensils, tupperwares, a bottle to take home some Kachasu and food brought locally from the village to cook!

Tuk Tuk Food Tour of Lilongwe

Today is a full food extravaganza of the best of the local food hot-spots within Lilongwe. 

We head from our office and cafe in area 3 with our provisions and tuk tuks and journey to the city center for nsima and relish and local meats. From here we cross town to area 18 and Bwandilos for chiwaya chips, mandasi, plantain, nyama ya nkhumba and manda a mbuzi as well as linunda. 

During the day we also try some of the local drinks such as kachasu, chibuku and tobwa.

Included is your Land & Lake guide, Tuk Tuk transport from Land & Lake return and tasters of some of the food above! Extras and full meals you can pay for duing your tour with Malawi kwacha cash to the vendors.

Bike it to Dzalanyama

Meet at the Land & Lake Café and offices in the morning for tea, coffee, juice and maybe some breakfast before you head out? Get your bike fitted and then we start our journey out of Lilongwe and on to Dzalanyama. Here you have your private Land & lake guide who will cycle with you. Stop often to enjoy the journey. Learn about the farming on the roadside, meet local people as you go and try your hand at one of the local bikes maybe?

We'll enjoy a myriad of high protein snacks en-route as well as juices and water that's all included. 

Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch and dip in the river before heading back to Lilongwe by vehicle in the afternoon. 

An optional extension here is to overnight at the lodge! (Excluded in the rate)
