As one of Malawi's neighboring countries, Mozambique runs the length of the Southern Central coastline. It's a coastline boasting islands, glittering white sands and crystal clear waters. It's every ocean lovers paradise and the prolific sea life down the coastline is home to dolphins, whale sharks, dugongs, soft shell leather back turtles and a wide variety of migrating whale species. 

Mozambique has a fascinating history, and architecture from Portuguese, Arab and Swahili influences make it a mismatch of colonial and modern design. 

The violent sections of this country's history make it still a relatively unexplored area for tourists who thrive along the coastline. Starting with the war of independence in 1964 to 1975 to its civil war in 1977 to 1992, Mozambique is going through bouts of RENAMO and Islamic insurgencies so travel is taken with caution.

The Mozambican Metical is used throughout the country, but many lodges catering to international guests take card and major currencies. The Metical at the moment is about 64 to 1 USD and bank notes range from 20 to 1,000.

It is advised to carry little cash on you during your travels for safety reasons.

Tofo Beach is a highlight of the coastal towns. Attracting huge manta rays at Manta Beach that feed along the coral reefs, pods of dolphins, humpback whales and whale sharks are frequently sighted off this small coastal village up Barra Beach.

Further up the coast, Bazaruto beach is a picture-perfect sandy island, reef sharks, moray eels, marlin and sailfish frequent this area. With activities like snorkeling and diving, swimming and dhow boat sailing, its a perfect beach extension to your exploration.

Coming inland, we find Gorongosa National Park, the open plains, broken up with palm trees, forests and lagoons make this a stunning wildlife addition to your Mozambique trip. Teaming with lion, elephant, wild dog and fantastic bird and antelope life.

Then as we swing back to the coastline, we find ourselves in Ihla de Mozambique - The Portuguese infrastructure here along stone town with the glittering blue waters beyond is like stepping out of Africa. Historically, the Island of Mozambique is home to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Baluarte, the 16th-century Fort of São Sebastião crowns a headland nearby and the Palace of São Paulo, which is a former governor's home with a museum.
