Just 40km South East of the Capital City, Lilongwe - Dzalanyama Forest covers an impressive 989.35sq km of mountain range between the border of Malawi and Mozambique and reaches altitudes between 1100m to 1650m.
This secretive and expansive forest reserve is one of Malawi's premier Miombo birding localities, an ornithologists delight with species such as the Olive-headed Weaver, Miombo Pied Barbet, Boulder Chat, White-tailed Flycatcher, Black-eared Seedeater and Stierlings Woodpecker.

Dzalanyama is the center of Land & Lake's community outreach programs & conservation efforts.

Dzalanyama School
Educating & boarding over 400 students across Malawi and Mozambique in the heart of the forest.
Kachere School
Educating over 1,000 students from the surrounding community
Dzalanyama Bamboo Project
Providing resources and guidance on growing and harvesting bamboo as a replacement fuel wood.
Dzalanyama History
Working with local chieftains to identify, map, log and record important historical and cultural sites within the forest.
Dzalanyama Reforestation
A new trial year of developing a nursery specifically for indigenous tree species under threat from deforestation
Dzalanyama Forest Lodge provides a myriad of activities - Birding, Walking, Hiking, Mountain Biking and 4x4 Trails have all been established - Passing dams, waterfalls, streams and taking you up lofty peaks that overlook both Malawi & Mozambique.
The Forest Lodge overlooking a stream is simple, yet cozy, with a wood fired stove, solar lighting and refrigeration which add to the charm. There are 4 comfortable rooms in the main house, 2 of which are en-suite. There are also 3 thatched en-suite chalets that are built into the treeline, providing accommodation for up to 15 people.
A well positioned, eco-friendly campsite is off-set from the main house.
