The Lake of Stars Festival is all about bringing together the best of Malawi’s music, art, and culture with talent from around the world — all set on the stunning beaches of Lake Malawi. For over 20 years, it’s been more than just a music festival; it’s helped shape Malawi’s creative scene, inspired young people, and put local artists on the global stage.

Expect an exciting mix of everything — from traditional Malawian dance and folklore to ‘Mangelengele’ rhythms, global beats, rock steady, pop, poetry, storytelling, fashion shows, waste art, visual installations, film, dance, and high-energy DJ sets. There’s something for everyone, with loads of family-friendly fun, beach games, wellness sessions, creative workshops, and masterclasses too.

But it’s not just about the music. The organisers are big on sustainability and giving back to the community. One awesome initiative is turning parts of the festival stages — made from recycled wood — into school desks. Just last year, 100 desks were donated to two schools in Nkhotakota. It’s a small example of the festival’s bigger impact beyond the arts.
